MANCHESTER UNITED 1 - 2 MANCHESTER CITY
Kompany (OG) 59 Milner 51, Aguero 78
Pride restored. But City's successive Old Trafford win for the first time in 41 years ultimately did nothing to change the fate of the title race.
Ten minutes of open, free flowing, pacey football was rapidly extinguished by an array of tough challenges as the Manchester giants locked heads in an atmospheric encounter. Wayne Rooney and Vincent Kompany writing themselves into the referee's book with risky fouls.
It was a story of the second half and the Blues didn't take long to make their mark on the game. Samir Nasri, rewarded with a start following his impressive performance against Newcastle, layed off tireless midfielder James Milner to fire a left footed effort that deflected past De Gea.
The goal unsurprisingly flicked United's switch and the Red Devils equalised only 8 minutes later through an unfortunate Vincent Kompany own goal. The home crowd roared and the attacking speed that had put Fergie's men 15 points ahead at the top of the table was unleashed on City.
However, the onslaught was quickly diminished by a face all too familiar to United fans. Nasri was replaced by Argentinian hero Sergio Aguero and on 78 minutes, after side stepping his way past three United defenders, he fired an impossible effort into the top corner.
The Fergie faithful stunned, once again, by the South American saviour.
Player Ratings
Joe Hart 6
Positionally, he was at fault for United's equaliser.
Pablo Zabaleta 7
Attacked well but struggled to keep up with United's counter attacking play.
Vincent Kompany 7
Calmed the defence once again and was unlucky to score the own goal. His presence will undoubtedly assist City's strong finish to the season.
Matija Nastasic 8
Marked United's top scorer completely out of the game. The 19 year old has to win Young Player of the Year Award. It would be an absolute sin should he not.
Gael Clichy 6
Quiet game from the Frenchman who left attacking duties to Pablo.
Yaya Toure 7
Unfortunately, we didn't see the Ivorian push up the field. Forced to sit in a defensive role alongside Barry and kept Carrick quiet.
Gareth Barry 8
One of the stand out performers for City. Instrumental in City's opener and silenced Rooney all game.
David Silva 7
Always crucial in City's attacking play and he was again yesterday evening.
Samir Nasri 6
Apart from his assist for Milner's goal, Nasri continued his trait of going missing. Substituted for Aguero.
James Milner 8
City have been crying out for width this season and he seems to be the only man who can supply it. Created a few chances from wide positions and netted City's opener.
Carlos Tevez 7
Held the ball up brilliantly but faded a little as the game progressed.
Substitutes
Sergio Aguero 8 - What a goal.
Joleon Lescott 6 - Sured up the defence for the final few minutes.
Javi Garcia - too late to mark
